SSL on Mac OS X Mail.app
How to turn on SSL in Mac OSX Mail.app
We need to turn on SSL for both POP (incoming) and SMTP (outgoing) mail servers
Open Mail Preferences
Select Accounts
Select email account
Select the account you wish to edit
Select Advanced Tab
Turn ON SSL for POP
Checking off the SSL box will also change your incoming port number from 110 to 995.
Your "Authentication" method should also be set Password
Turn on SSL for SMTP (outgoing mail server)
If your outgoing email server is not smtp.netextras.com or mail.netextras.com then DO NOT Proceed with this step. Simply close the preference widow and save changes ( see last two steps)
If you are using telus or shaw servers there is no need to change anything. (i.e. smtp.telus.net)
Select Advanced Tab
Select/edit your Outgoing Mail sever list
You may only have one server in your list- that's OK, simply select "Edit SMTP Server list..."
Turn ON SSL for SMTP
Select your Server (1)
Turn on "Use Secure Sockets Layer"
Your "Authentication" method should also be set Password, and you should have your username (full email address) and your password filled in as well.
Click OK
Close Preferences Window
When asked to Save Changes, click Save.
You're DONE!
