How to turn on SSL in Mac OSX Mail.app

We need to turn on SSL for both POP (incoming) and SMTP (outgoing) mail servers

Open Mail Preferences

Open Mail Preferences

Select Accounts

Select Accounts

Select email account

Select email account

Select  the account you wish to edit

Select Advanced Tab

Select Advanced Tab

Turn ON SSL for POP

Turn ON SSL for POP

Checking off the SSL box will also change your incoming port number from 110 to 995.

Your "Authentication" method should also be set Password

Turn on SSL for SMTP (outgoing mail server)

If your outgoing email server is not smtp.netextras.com or mail.netextras.com then DO NOT Proceed with this step. Simply close the preference widow and save changes ( see last two steps)

If you are using telus or shaw servers there is no need to change anything. (i.e. smtp.telus.net)

Select Advanced Tab

Select/edit your Outgoing Mail sever list

Select/edit your Outgoing Mail sever list

You may only have one server in your list- that's OK, simply select "Edit SMTP Server list..."

Turn ON SSL for SMTP

Turn ON SSL for SMTP

Select your Server (1)

Turn on "Use Secure Sockets Layer"

Your "Authentication" method should also be set Password, and you should have your username (full email address) and your password filled in as well.

Click OK

Close Preferences Window

Close Preferences Window

When asked to Save Changes, click Save.

You're DONE!
